David.

Today. I graduated. But my mind has been with my David all day. If he reads this...which he might not. I am going to New Mexico for a little bit before I head off. I will see you but you might not see me. I know that are a trying to be happy and move on. So I might not get in the way again, like I always do. You are amazing. I miss you. And wish with all my heart that you would've been here. But alas reality sets back in. I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn and we are lead to those who help us most to grow, if we let them, and we help them in return. Well I don't know if I believe that's true. But I know I'm who I am today because I knew David Clifton Hartshorn. Because I know you David I have been changed for good.

I hope you call tonight.

Busy Day

You told me not to write.

But I have to somewhere, I had a good day. It was busy and full of people. Which is just what I need. I am glad that so many people love me. Sometimes I feel like you have died or something with the way people act when I bring you up. But I know that they are just uncomfortable and don't know how to respond and that is alright. I love them still anyway.

Anyway, I just wanted to write and tell you that I hope today was better. I hope you got back up on your feet and tried. I hope you know that I love you, and am proud of you. Proud of the man you are becoming.

When we talked today I felt better, not because I talked to you or anything like that. (Well it might have been partly that) but it was because you said you can't see yourself marrying anyone else. And I know that might be selfish, but I felt peace from that.

I really do feel Heavenly Father's hand in this decision. That He will take care of us as long as we stick close to Him. At this point I am really hoping He brings us back together when the time is right, but I also know that if I stay close to Him it won't matter. I hope that you are doing well David.

I love you.

Missing you.

I'm lying in bed looking at your stars.
I hope you read this.
I hope when I see you, you are as excited as I am.
I hope you feel my prayers for you.
I hope you feel the love I have been feeling.
Baby, you are what I miss.
But you aren't so much what I need anymore.
I feel myself changing everyday.
Little by little.
I feel the Savior.
I did service today,
I worked out
I ate heathy.
I got my hw done.
I did Fhe.
I listened to lots of conference talks.
I prayed.
I read the Book of Mormon.
I told myself to think about The Savuor more.

However, sometimes I wonder why the world we can't talk..
But maybe that's just it. It's not in this world we are suppose to talk.
I have only talked to one person who was outside this world with me.
That was and is you my love.

I miss you heart.
I miss your smell.
I miss your arms holding me close:
I miss your voice. Oh how I long to hear your voice. But I look at this as a fast.
A way to connect with God.

My dearest sleep well tonight.
Say your prayers. I prayed for you.
I always do.
I have been more now though...more and more.

I can not wait to see your handsome face in three short days.

Senior Year Morning.

It is the morning of another journey back up to BYU-Idaho where I am very close to being done. I am hoping that this is my last fall semester at this particular establishment, but you never know. I always feel very lethargic when making this trip. Thinking of the past and the future. In this case I would be thinking about the past summer I had. And all that came with it. I know that I was blessed many times to be able to have the summer I did.

One highlight of the summer was being able to spend some of it with my sister. I love seeing her grow up. She is such an example to me when I think about how we use to be, (I'm sure you all can relate) it makes me very happy that we became friends and now would choose to spend time with each other over many things. She truly is one of the funniest, wittiest, cleverest, most caring, kind hearted souls I have ever come in contact with. She feels deeply and writes beautifully. I am so glad I got to see her on stage in Beauty and the Beast. I could feel her energy from the audience and I don't doubt that she gave it her all every night. She is seriously so beautiful.

Another highlight, that in the moment I wasn't so keen about, was working. There are many things I enjoyed about this job I had. I worked at a mine and I enjoyed the things I learned about myself there, I learned that I can wake up every morning at 4:45 if I go to bed early, and I am able to do both. I learned that I can deal with awful bosses who I just don't get along with. I learned that my dad is one of the best bosses in the world, and has made himself an amazing name at this company. I learned that God truly does hand pick people to put in your life when He knows you will struggle. I think about it now and...you know those things that in the moment you think it would never end and you pray every night that something will happen and you will get put in a different situation magically? Well that is how I felt all summer about this job. But! Looking back, (as it always happens) I chose to only see the good, as it should be. I hope that I am able to do that with every job.

The biggest highlight of this summer was every night, every second, I got to spend with the love of my life. For his willingness to move down to my hometown with me. I love every single time I was able to connect with him. What he taught me about myself this summer. i love him for that. But you all already know how I feel about him so go read it in another post. But I do know that that was my biggest highlight.

I hope for my future, my near future. That I am able to, find a wedding dress, plan my wedding, eat/cook good food, figure out how to love cooking, get really fit, make some more money, become closer to my Savior, not miss David too much, become reacquainted with myself, and help David as much as I possibly can.

I really am excited for this semester and all that it will bring. I hope that I can just become a little better, help some people, and eat lots of good food. Mandarin here I come.

David, I miss you my love.

People.

I wanted to continue on my "Beautiful People" post and talk about some more people in my life.

Jacquelyn Dalquhist. I tell her daily, that she is one of the weirdest people I have ever met. I guess what I mean to say to her is that she astounds me with some of her comments. They are some of the funniest things I have ever heard a person speak in my life. But this summer of my life would have been drastically different without her there. She has a light, and in the LDS church you hear this often. But in her case, it is truly a sight that you see and feel. Jackie is so positive it makes me want to be a better, happier person. I am very grateful for her in my life.

David Clifton Hartshorn. People often ask me, what I love most about David, and you know what? The best answer I have is that "I love David, because he loves me, and the Lord so much." But I don't think it makes sense to people how important that is to me. I feel like I am changing my life for this man and I wouldn't do so for someone I didn't think loved me very much. In this case people, he acts on it every single day of his life. He strives to be better. I love how he makes me feel, that I am never bored of him, that I laugh at his silliness, that he always says hi back. David has given me a life that I never thought possible. Sure I imagined my life as a happy one, but this way I never thought would be my life. I am just more at peace with the world and all that is in it, when I know that he is near and watching me. I know that David loves me. I know that he loves his Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that he would do anything for both of us, and because of that I am more than willing to do all I can to make him as happy and loved as he has made me. He honestly is the best thing that has happened to me. I love you Cliff.

I hope that as I write the next few months that you all will feel my emotions. That I will be able to express myself. I am very closed off as of recently, and wish to be more open and loving. I hope I am able to serve.

I hope you all know how lucky you are to be alive. Remember that. Feel all you are wishing for. Do all you are able. Love as much as you possibly can.

Happy.

"There are moments in this life
When you can't fake it." - Do Not Let Me Go by Joshua Hyslop.

This post isn't going to be a sad one. I am tired of showing that side of myself to you all. I promise you I am a very happy person. I have always had very many reasons to be happy. I am planning on tell you some of those reasons right now.

One of the biggest reasons I am happy, if not the biggest reason, is because of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the gospel doctrine it teaches me. My testimony of my Father in Heaven is my beacon in the dark, He's the reason I am living. Today is a day that we fast for something, fasting is just a little extra help from Heavenly Father. The point of it is to essentially "starve" the natural man in us all to make more room for our souls to thrive and gain more insight from our loving Father. I believe that everything else that I list is because of this first one. I know that Christ died for me, so that I could have the happiness my soul so craved in the pre-mortal life.

Now that I have said why these beautiful additions are in my life I can say who they are, my family. Words cannot express the many feelings I feel for each member of my family. Not only my immediate family, but everyone, my grandma, cousins, great grandparents, and so on. They all have made some choice that one way or another has impacted my life and for that I am very grateful to them for helping me make it a good one, for their persistence, mostly though for my immediate family, for my little sissy, for the things I have learned from and about her and will learn. I'm grateful for her amazing personality in my life. Also for the love that she has for me and I have for her, it made my junior and senior years of high school full of light. For my oldest brother, Bo-bo, although you have been gone for it seems like decades Bo, I still remember your silly attitude, crazy temper (at times), and love for fun, your family, and doing what was right and good. Thank you for your love. Thank you for working so hard where you are. We can feel it Bo, we really can. And we miss you. For Tanner. my older brother, he just recently became engaged, I am thrilled for him and his finace. Tan, you did it brother, as much as I thought at times, there was going to have to be a miracle for you to choose a wife, I see now, it was just that. And that love is truly a miracle for anyone. You my brother are a miracle after all the near death experiences you've had and the times when I thought you had given up on this gem we call love, you go to china looking for just that, you seemed like you were digging deep bro, I hope that you found what you were looking for. It seems you have, I hope that you and I become close again. I miss you.

Mom, well honestly there is nothing I can express in mere words that tells you all how much love our mother has for the children she has bore, raised, and molded. Everyday I am who I am because of the childhood my mother provided, for the pure and sweet love my mother shows me, for the attitude she has in hard times, for the beacon she is to many people around her. She is the closest person I know to superwomen and I imagine she wouldn't agree with that statement, but that is what we call humility. I love you momma. Papa, for every family member there is definitely a different love, a different feel for them, but for my dad, it is entirely different. My father is a man that shows love more abundantly in such interesting ways, he loves his wife, very much. He is trying his hardest to show that love and act on it as well, he loves his children, each one of them with a specific love that he has developed over the years of giving his all to provide for us each day. My dad and I's relationship is always developing every time I call, think of him, and by the things I try to do for him. I love my daddy. Heavenly Father definitely knew what he was doing when He gave me the parents He did.

Quickly want to mention some friends, Courtney, Caitlin, Katelyn, Geoffery Brown, Brittnay Teare, Bekah, Becca Robinson. One way or another all these people have not only touched my life, but altered it recently, life is an amazing ride when you keep changing seats and meeting the most amazing souls. These souls are just that.

Honestly, I know for a fact that these next few words aren't going to come close to the things I have felt these past few months, and year with him. Now for the sappy love part, brace yourselves. David Clifton Hartshorn. This man is the closest person I have to a real angel. I imagine that in the beginning God saw all the good things that I have done up to my life and combined them to get someone who was half the man David is. I guess the other half I have gained is because of the mercy of my loving Father. David's influence on me is life changing. I know that they are directly from my Father in Heaven and that is why it is so close to the core of my very being. I believe the line in Les Miserables to be true: "To love someone, is to see the face of God" This rings true to my heart these last couple months. The first time I saw David after the true separation we had, I felt like I did the first time I truly saw David's sou. A couple nights ago we were driving to my grandparents grave just to talk and check in with each other, when while we were driving, I felt a distinct voice tell me, "Chelsea, you truly do love him unconditionally." I looked back at him and remember thinking, it begins. I was completely full. I was completely and utterly full of a love that I have never experienced for another human being, it was beautifully perfect. The crazy thing about life is that we have those moments. Moments of bewitchment, and then the next there is some opposition. In that moment I knew there was also going to be opposition for this feeling. I wished more than anything for it to not come, pleaded, but to no avail. Opposition came, but the thing about it is that at the end of those hard, long, weeks is sunday. The day of the Lord and David and I know that God is the one who allows all of these to happen, and we know that the love will return when we are trying. And it did the next morning we were making breakfast and he was being so funny and perfect that I remembered that love. I remembered why I was on this earth. I have never had more moments with someone in my existence on this earth. I plan on enduring, living and loving with David by my side. It makes me life worth it. I can't imagine it any other way now.

So! Now that we all know what I am thinking again. I hope everyone who reads this knows of the happiness of my soul, and that is truly from the Atonement of Christ. I am thankful everyday for it, and Him. And my David.

Update on Goals.

Things have changed a bit since writing last. I have decided a couple things.

One: I have come to the conclusion that I have never had a "clean slate" when it comes to boys. So what I have decided is telling every guy that may have a crush on me or vis versa about the fact that I am still very much in love with my ex David Hartshorn and I can't/shouldn't have anything with anyone until I am able to give them all I have. And I don't think I will be able to until I let them go. I know how now. There is a part of me that has been changing since David left. I am learning...growing. I honestly think that a part of me is doing this because of David. Cause I...feel like I am being prepared or something...like I am learning all that I need to from him or about him. I know that this may all sound crazy. But I was thinking about the whole coincidence of finding his letters and I think about him everyday (as much as I try not to)...I don't think it is by chance these things keep happening. I think I am being told that someday I might be so blessed. Maybe not with him, but with someone. I know that I am learning though. I think also I am not done with David...I think that he may move on and if so...it might kill me, (that's me being selfish too) but I know that I will be okay. Because my main focus is on my Father in Heaven, and I know that He has told me to do this. To be able to focus on one person. One boy. Give him all of me.

I think I am able to do that because of the relationship I have with my Father in Heaven. He has given me that gift, and for that I am very grateful to Him.

Two: I love my Father in Heaven. I love the things that I am learning on this earth, about all of his creations, people, plants. But mostly plants. I feel close to Him when I am in class. While I am learning and understanding. I know that my life has taken a different turn because I am letting Him in again.

Three: I love my family. I know I have said this many times, but this time it is different. I know that they will love and support me no matter what. Even my father. I love my father. And the man he is now. I know that I will always know that too. My dad has shaped me no matter what I think. So Dad, thanks. I think you have done a good job. I love my mom too. Very much. I love her love for me, it is very unique to our relationship as it should be. I love my brother Joseph, I love his love for us too. Sometimes I know for a fact that my life is being touched by him specifically, so Bo-bo, thank you. I love you very much and forgive you for anything that has happened. I love you Hobo.

So that is it. I am still in love with David, but am focusing on that, and that alone. I have told every boy that, those are my feelings, and I have never done this. I know that I will be able to have a "clean slate" if I do it this way and things don't ever happen with David, which they might not, but that is what I am getting from Heavenly Father right now so that is what I am rolling with.

Trying..

So it is 8 o'clock in the morning and I just got back from going to the Rexburg Temple, and let me tell you guys, I love it there. No matter how I feel I can go and relax even if it's for two mins and then my mind starts going to other things, but even that two mins is enough for me to listen to my Heavenly Father and his will for me at this time.

This particular snowy morning I was sitting in the chapel of the temple after my session, I took out my mini Preach my Gospel and was trying to find a place to take some notes of either my thoughts or some of the things I needed to do today and stumbled upon a letter David had written me. I thought my heart was going to come out my throat. This isn't the first time this has happened, the Lord seems to through him in my face often, daily in fact, but I understand that. So while I was reading this letter he had written me I was almost begging Heavenly Father that we could be...something again. I didn't even care what it was, something that I could have him in my life again. After my cry fest in the chapel I opened my heart, opened my mind, and was willing to do what the Lord wants me to do.

This what my loving Heavenly Father told me to do, to write. To get all of my crap out, and all my frustrations will come to a close. I told him that I will put it in His hands, but if by some awesome circumstance that David might read this and have his heart softened that would be even better, BUT I am not banking on that, and I will still progress, still move forward with my plans and life.

Now that we all know why I am writing, I am going to say a couple things I am struggling with; one I am struggling with not having David in my life. It has snowed here and this time last year I was with him, enjoying the snow, but I know that is the way life goes....but ya know what?? I am not going to say how I should be feeling okay. I feel this way and I just going to say it. I miss David. I miss watching Frozen with him, I miss him talking to me, I miss him pushing me to talk, (cause I haven't since he left), I miss his loving letters everywhere (even though I keep finding them), I miss him being a gentlemen to me. Okay. So that is the David situation.

Now I miss snowboarding. I don't think I'll be able to get to do much this season either but the utter happiness I feel being on the mountain is something I can't express in words.

I miss having a simple life. I miss not having to choose what grad school to go to or whether or not to go to grad school. I miss my mom.

Okay, now I'm done with that. I hope that you all know that I am not bipolar...kinda, I am just trying my hardest to follow my Father in heaven.

I have done my part in writing. I hope that I feel better soon. I'll just keep up the prayers and study. It's the cure to everything right?

Examining Life.

This past week I was able to spend in Phoenix with my horticulture class, and I learned a lot. A lot about myself and what I want to do. A lot about dating cause I was in a minivan with a bunch of single girls and boys the whole week. A lot about the education required for the things I am looking into to pursue as a career.

But I wanted to write just to tell you some things I've been feeling. I recently have been understanding The Lords timing; that it is something I needed to trust in a long time ago. That my life would've been a lot easier if I had done that. I don't regret anything, but I do hope that I am able to do that for my future. My brother wrote me a letter a couple days ago about dating, and it hit home with me. I hope that people understand that getting married is important and should be done, but the BEST way it will be accomplished is by creating the best person you can be. And the only way we will do that is through Christ's atonement.

This week I was able to examine my life...my faults and strengths. And the conclusion I have come to is that I am doing good. I can always do better and most certainly will. But I can always work on the things that I know I struggle with.

I hope that everyone can look at their lives and say that they are doing the best they can for the God they serve and love. I know that I can. If you can't...then work on it, however you feel the need to, just make sure that you are doing it for yourself and your personal relationship with our Father in Heaven because in the end, that is all that will matter.

David Post.

Sometimes I forget about my therapy session here.

Yet again I am changing, growing, learning, just like all of us. Whether we realize it or not. But the biggest thing I have learned as of late is that life is a good as YOU make it. I think people say that too often without truly realizing what they are saying.

I have had that first part written for a week now, but people I just want to say that I miss David. I miss him...I have no where else to say it. But I am slowly learning and understanding..but I do feel a bit of a wreck since he left my life. David, if you are reading this...remember that there is a part of me that wishes you were in my life still. But that I understand what you are doing. I just hope someday we can some sort of relationship again. I do love you, but would settle just for you to look at me again. I miss those eyes and smile. But I am doing amazing, for the situation I am in, the Lord has blessed me and my life tremendously since that time. I trust Him to help me make the best decision.

David...I miss you.

This was my post for therapy. Thank you.

A List.

I am going to write down some things that have been bringing me joy the past couple months:

Becca Eileen Robinson. I’m not sure if I have ever connected with a person so easily and fast in my life. I am not very good at putting my feelings into words so when I need to tell her how much I love her I will text her, here is just another way of telling you how much you mean to me. Becs, you are magnificent. I hope someday you see what I see. I could literally go on for this whole post about how indebted I am to you for this summer, and how grateful I am to you for your love, kindness, humor, courage, and for sharing a piece of your soul with me, cause I know that for sure you will always have a piece of my soul. Thanks.

Eating good food. We have tried some amazing food while we’ve been in Salt Lake and I am loving every second of it.

My job. I work as a gardener and the love I feel from my Savior everyday for the opportunity I have to work there is a blessing in itself. I remember when I thought I wasn’t going to get it, I always hoped and prayed for the opportunity, sometimes I am not always the best sport, but the people I work with, they will never be forgotten in my memories. I never realized how much I love getting to know people till I have to work 8 hours a day with them.

A call for a date. A guy I work with called me last night to ask me out on a date and it reminded me that chivalry isn’t dead.

Music. Vincent by Don McLean remind me that paintings aren’t just paintings, and people who have problems are still just people with one thing that they eat, sleep, and breathe.

The Infinite Atonement by Tad R. Callister. Has been changing my love for the gospel, and brings me much joy.

Speaking Spanish with my coworker Scotty.

My determination to see past the temporal problems in life.

My sister graduating.

Becca’s brother Schulyer, and his girlfriend Kaylee.

Lagoon

Hope for the future.

I advise you all to write one of these, it helps when times get hard.

Love.

This post is about love. Again.

The past couple years I have learned a lot about the different kinds of love. I remember when my brother passed away and I wondered why my brother's wife got to decide a lot of things, when she only lived with him for 2 years but we had lived with Joe for 20. Being so upset my mom told me that their love was a lot different then any kind of love we could have given Joe. I understood a little more the love between husband and wife.

Now don't get me wrong I have had my fair share of "romantic interests", but the feeling you get when you give your heart, your all to someone, it isn't like any feeling, or so I have heard. I think I have felt feelings to that effect, more so recently then any other time in my life.

The phrase "I love you" is very interesting, it has become more prevalent in the world (at least the people I associate with). I say this phrase to many people. I remember growing up having people comment on the fact that I would tell that to many people, and I remember thinking...well isn't that a good thing? I thought we were suppose to love everyone that. Well once I started actually falling in love, not just loving them as a person, I felt sort of bad saying it so often, so I tried to slow it down and wouldn't tell as many people I loved them. Not one of my best ideas. I have since broken that habit and now am very happy telling everyone I love them. The people who love me back, truly, will know why I say what I say. And will know the type of love I mean for them. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and I asked him if it was alright if I said I love you to him and he said that love can be expressed many different ways, mine are verbally and I say it in a way that the recipient of my affection should know how I mean this meaningful phrase.

I dated a guy who knows when I love him and when I am annoyed. He is the best at determining everything about me. He reads me like a book, but honestly he is the best guy I ever dated. I learn about love from him, that I didn't have to like someone to love them, that I really could be loved unconditionally, and love someone unconditionally. In the movie, Moulin Rouge, I believe the best quote ever written was said in that movie: "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return". This quote has been my theme my whole life. I am very grateful to that boy I dated. I am still learning about love from him. That it is NOT by any means easy, but that makes it much more worth our time and energy when it is hard.

I watched a dumb chick flick a couple days ago with my cousin, who has a very similar relationship with her husband that I do with David, and there was a line in the movie, these two girls are arguing about love and it goes like this: "Hailey: And I know there's a reason why everybody wants it so much. Aquamarine: And what's that? Hailey: It's the closest thing we have to magic." The closest to magic huh? I agree completely Hailey. Now overcome your fear of the water and tell Aqua you love her so that her crazy dad doesn't take her away from her true love Raymond! Okay, I'll calm down.

Seriously though people love is something to think about, everyday. It is something we have been very blessed with on this earth. Thank those around you for the love the give you. Even if it's weird. Oh and tell your mom you love her too. She's the best. But David shout out to you, Thank you for teaching me how to love again. I hope you know I want to marry you someday. I love you.

Easter Morn.

Hello all, I have been kind of steering this blog towards things in my life that mean the most to me during that time. And during this time it is my beliefs. I know that all of you aren't members of my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), and you don't all believe the things that I do. But this morning, this easter morning, is very special, and should be to every human being. This is the morning when Jesus Christ broke the bands of death and on the third day arose. It is the morning when the Atonement was completely fulfilled and perfect. This morning is a time to rejoice. To thank our Brother Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven for this magnificent plan. Because of Him I am able to marry someone in the temple for eternity, not just till "death do us part" but forever. I am also able to have my family now, my future kids, their kids, and so on, forever. This is something that God knew would bring us much joy in this life and would make it easier through the hard times. I believe that this weekend, many years ago, Christ suffered on the cross and in Gethsemane, was mocked, bruised, scorned, betrayed, denied, rejected, reviled, spit on, crucified, and died for me. This was all done so when we all are going through our trials in life we can hear Christ say "I know how you feel. I have felt it before, and you will be alright." We all should know, and take comfort that through and because of Jesus Christ our sins shouldn't be so hard. The Lord will lift us.

And because of that promise I will live for and because of Jesus Christ.

A Gift.

Brothers and sisters, today I speak very plainly and precisely on a subject that is very near to my heart. Over the past few months I have grown to gain one of the strongest testimonies I possess on this subject. The biggest and most influential act of service ever done is that of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
I want to start my talk by sharing what James E. Faust said about the atonement in his talk given in October 2001. “I wish to speak about the greatest event in all history. That singular event was the incomparable Atonement of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. This was the most transcendent act that has ever taken place, yet it is the most difficult to understand.” I hope that today I am able to clear up some misunderstandings or just naivetés of the Atonement our Lord has given to us. But I will only be able to hit on a few key points of the Atonement as it will and does take a lifetime to fully comprehend this miraculous gift.
I am attending school at BYU-Idaho and was in a time of great turmoil and grief.  Searching for answers, I attended the Tuesday devotional with a heavy heart.  I began to feel peace as I partook of the spirit there in the devotional.  The speaker was Brother Reed Stoddard, the head of the Counseling Center there at BYU-Idaho. He shared the poem, “The Road is Rough” which helped me to gain some of the insights into the road I was currently on:
“The road is rough I said, dear Lord,
                                        There's stones that hurt me so;
And he said, dear child I understand,
                                               I walked it long ago...
But there is a cool green path I said,
                                         Let me walk there for a time;
No child He gently answered me,
The green road does not climb.
My burden I said is far too great,
How can I bear it so?
My child, said he, I remember its weight,
I carried my cross you know.
But, I said, I wish there were friends with who would make my way their own,
Oh yes, he said, Gethsemane was hard to face alone.
And so I walked that stony path
                                                 Content to know,
That where my master had not gone,
I would not need to go...
And strangely then I found my friends,
                                           The burden grew less sore,
As I remembered long ago, that He had
                                           Walked that way before…
After hearing this poem I was struck by the unfathomable love our Father in Heaven has for us, each individual is known and loved by our creator.
To show His love, Heavenly Father sent—with a willing heart—His son Jesus Christ to bring to pass the ultimate act of love ever performed by any being to ever be live on this eart—that act being the Atonement. One insight I have gained this semester is that Christ, while on the cross, while in agonizing torment, had the antidote of His distress right in front of Him.  The misery, and heartache He was being put through was all a choice. He chose to do this for His Father, and for His brothers and sisters - Christ chose to go through all of that for you and for me.
In Alma 7:12 it reads, “And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.” Brother Stoddard went on to say there is very little mention of Christ suffering for our sin, but that Christ came to suffer adversity, to be able to relate to our lives and lift us up if we but turn to Him and ask for His help.
Another amazing insight I have attained from the last three months of studying is that of the truthfulness of Christ truly suffering our adversity so that he might be able to lift us up. In Alma 62:41 it reads, “But behold, because of the exceedingly great length of the war between the Nephites and the Lamanites many had become hardened, because of the exceedingly great length of the war; and many were softened because of their afflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselves before God, even in the depth of humility.” This verse talks about those who understand and use the atonement and those who do not. I have been able to experience this principle in my life first hand:
My second week of attending BYU-Idaho, after meeting many new people, and experiencing the excitement of living on my own, I was sitting in my Book of Mormon class and received a phone call from my father. I hadn’t talked to my family nearly as much as I should’ve since being at school, but I had an overwhelming feeling to take the call. My dad informed me of an accident my brother Joe had been in.  He had inadvertently overdosed on some illicit drugs and was in the hospital in critical condition. A couple of weeks later my brother passed from this life. In the midst of this event the Atonement was very prevalent in my life – even though I did not notice it at the time.  I did not comprehend everything I was going through - the feelings I felt, all the tender mercies I was receiving at the hand of my Father in Heaven, the blessings of my brother Tanner who was currently serving a mission, my friends, my parents, my little sister and many more -- I didn’t truly grasp that what I was seeing was the Atonement in action.
I do remember, however, talking to my dad about the event, and hearing him say, “Chelsea, don’t let this harden you.” My dad had always seen me as a light-hearted, happy girl. I had never truly agreed with him, but on reflection of his words and hearing these words in Alma I knew that at that point I could become hardened because “of the length of the war” or I could be come softened because of my afflictions.  It was then I understood a little more fully the effects of the Atonement and what it has meant in my life, especially in my times of trouble.
Normally when we think of The Atonement our first thoughts are that of sins and the wiping clean of our souls.  While this is very true, there is so much more to the Atonement then just an “easer of sin”. Although Christ did go through all so that we might live with Him and our Father again, He also took on the Atonement because He wanted us to be able to be happy along the way. In a talk given by Elder Jeffery R. Holland to mission presidents he said that through our struggles, if we but stand strong in our faith and be true, we will be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best life has ever known and the only pure and perfect missionary that ever lived. We have every reason to stand tall brothers and sisters, the Atonement has given us that reason, that hope and faith, it has given us everything.
In Mosiah 14:11 it reads, “He shall see the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied; by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.” These words of Isaiah follow that of verses talking about the crucifixion and the ghastly afflictions inflicted upon Christ. I love that it says that Christ’s knowledge will only justify “many”.  I believe this is Isaiah telling us of the importance of our true faith in Christ, that His pure Atonement will only save you if you but let Him. I, Chelsea Applegate, can with full intent in Jesus Christ say that I am going to try with all my heart, might, mind and strength to fulfill my destiny upon this earth.  I know with all confidence that I will accomplish this task through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and that I need it everyday, all day. I know that my afflictions and adversities were already felt and conquered and that I am very capable of overcoming any obstacle put in my path because of the sacrifice. I am deeply grateful that I do not have to walk a path that my brother, Jesus Christ, hasn’t already walked.

Brothers and sisters, Tad R. Callister in The Infinite Atonement put it very well when he said, “The Atonement of Jesus Christ outweighs, surpasses, and transcends every other mortal event, every new discovery, and every acquisition of knowledge, for without the Atonement all else in life is meaningless.” I know this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is true. I know that without my Father in Heaven sending the most beloved brother I had, down to this earth I wouldn’t know anything of this earth. I am grateful for my struggles because without them I would never be able to attain the presence of my Father, and I would never be able to see Christ face to face, fall at His feet and thank him mercilessly for the act of the Atonement for me and my family. I say these things humbly in the name of Jesus Christ, my ultimate example and friend, Amen.

Unsaid Things.

This blog post is going to help me move on with a couple things. Recently I have been trying to downsize my anxiety and in doing so I need to take care of a couple things. So first, I want to say a couple things to a couple people.

They will remain nameless, but if they read it...they will know who they are.

To the two people I look up to and love: I am blessed beyond words to have been influenced by you two my whole life. I know that without you in my life I wouldn't be anywhere near the women I am becoming. Thank you for all your sacrifice, it doesn't go unnoticed.

To the people I push away: I am sorry that I am emotionally constipated at times. The best advice I have for you is either your patience will be tried, and tried well, or get out now. But, I am trying my hardest to not push so hard and open up again.

To my gorgeous sister: I hope you pick a college that is best for you. This decision is something that Heavenly Father will direct you...you just have to lose yourself in goodness sissy. Also I want you to remember how freaking amazing you are. And I truly hope you tell yourself that everyday, Cause I know that I thank my Father in Heaven everyday for sending me such an angel. I love you sissy.

To my extremely bright brother: I love you brother. I really do. When you told me you were leaving for China...I was pretty distraught. I then realized how much I do love having you at school with me. I hope you find a way to reach those goals you have set for yourself, whether they be secular, spiritual, academically, or socially. I know that you can do it. Just lose yourself in love for others. No matter who it is. I love you. Thanks so much for your love and happiness in my life.

To the boy I love: This may or may not have been the main purpose for this post, but who knows! I want you to know that I do still love you, although I am learning many things in our time apart. I have learned to be alone. To physically and mentally be alone. I never realized how completely dependent I was and how scary it is. But I am coming to the realization that my relationship with The Lord is all that matters, and if I want to get close to anyone then it is through Him that I am able to do these things. I am becoming very dependent on His love and teachings. I love you still very much. But I am very glad you are doing what you are doing. Thank you for not giving up on me. I love you for that. And if you decide to give up on me someday, then the Lord will work it all out. And it is that faith that I am coming to rely on, after that everything will fall into place.

I'm sure I have mentioned this before people, but time...it is a funny thing. It can be disatrious, life-changing, never ending, impossible and many more. As J.R.R Tolkien would say “I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Time is a gift, remember that what we do with it should be decided with the help of the supreme creator. He is like the ultimate therapist. But sometimes it is hard to get into see Him. But we must remember our divine purpose. And trust in the Lord's timing.

Parents

Having church at 1 pm is sometimes hard on me I don't know what to do with myself in the morning, I went to bed so dang early last night. We went boarding yesterday, and can I just go on a tangent real quick? I think my love for snowboarding has been waining, only because I'm getting older and it is so much money, that I do not posses, but I do still love it, and if I had the guts of the pro's I would be right there with them. But if I showed up at Judgment Day and told my Savior that my biggest accomplishment was a gold medal in snowboarding I would feel a bit silly. So I think I will stick with what I am doing. Maybe for a midlife crisis I'll do that. Good. Check.

So this weekend my dad came to visit me, and my brother and I feel extremely blessed for my dad to drive 10-11 hours just to show his love for his children. We went boarding, hot tubbing, out to eat, and he went to tanner's class with him, it was an extraordinary weekend.

Now going off of that I want to talk about parents, I think we as a child of good parents sometimes take for granted to greatness they have to offer in our lives. I know that for me that is a very true statement. My teenage years I wasn't the nicest to my parents, and I definitely didn't show them the respect they deserve. I would just like to take a minute and thank all good parents out there. You are doing a lot better than you think you are. Now to my parents:

To my amazing mother who taught me that life isn't easy, but it will be worth it...eventually. You taught me how to laugh at myself and almost everyone else around me, how to love people even when they don't deserve it, how to be patient (I wish I would've learned more of that), the true meaning of family and that it is the only thing that really matters, how to cook, clean, and appreciate those who do it. You taught me to be grateful, for everything.

To the best man I know, my father, you taught me to work, and work hard, to enjoy the fruits of my labor, to love the Gospel, how to be excited about things. Dad, you were the one that actually taught me the most about myself, you noticed things and mentioned them which in turn made me reflect on my life and the things I had to offer to those around me. You gave me a better perspective on money, that if it matters in the long run, spend it. "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without." Will always be in my heart and house because of you. You taught me to be service oriented and that that is truly the only thing that matters in this life.

Thank you parents of the world who are good to their kids. Who love them. Because if I had to choose one thing from my parents that I learned, it would be how to love your children unconditionally. So thanks Mom and Dad. I love you both, to the moon and back.

Charity

I have had an epiphany today people. So background: I have been having a spell of hard times and haven't been sure what to say on here, because frankly, I was very sick of being negative. SO! I have been thinking about this crapness in my life for a while and you know what?! There are so many dang wonderful things in this world people! What are they for me? Well, here we go...

...People. My family, friends, guys I like, coworkers, bosses, other students, teachers, Prophets, random people you see do cleverly wonderful things. As of late some examples of these people are my brother and sister, Jordan, David, David, David, Laken, my mom, my dad, Mallorie, Jordan, President Baron, Stephen, cute couples, President Hinkley, Rimo, Sophia Rusted, Kristina, Summer, every single girl in my Relief Society, Stephanie, Ben, Brittnay, and Charly, babies, people who sing/juggle around campus, Melissa and her blog, my biostats group, Jeff, Paige, Claire, Taylor. I could literally go on forever. Some of these people don't always make me the happiest, but tell you the truth, I also don't think I have ever felt more joy than when I am accompanied by these fantastic individuals.

So you may ask Chelsea why do you always ramble about things like this? Do they even matter? Well, the answer to that question is that they are all that matters. Life is about losing yourself in the work of the Lord, and what does that mean? It means you serve. Always, and willingly. I think that true happiness we, as humans yearn for is that of charity to our fellow men. I was actually talking to Jordan about this and we discussed that charity, true charity mind you, is very rare and far apart. It is something that you see in few people. I agree with our conversation, but after pondering it I have come to a conclusion that I see it more often then I think. Now true charity is something that very few people actually attain as an attribute in their everyday lives, but I have seen charity in every single one of those people I have listed, and many more people I have come in contact with. This is what makes the world literally go round.

If we are able to harness the act of service in our lives, we will feel this joy, this unexplainable, unfathomable, happiness that awaits us as go through this life. It is there, waiting for you. Seek it out. Ask for help to find it. I know that I have sucked at this for the past year. I have been very selfish and self absorbing. I know that if I am to do this, I will feel the joy I do today every day of my life.

Thank you to every person I have come in contact with so far in my life. Seriously. You guys all have so many gifts. So many attributes given to you by someone who loves you more then you could ever deem possible. I know I need to remember this as well.

My Testimony.

Another thing I wanted to talk about is my love for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This too, has become very prevalent this semester. I know, without any skepticism that the gospel is the only aspect that actually has impact on the rest of my eternity. Keeping this idea, has gotten me through some hard times. I know that my Savior, Jesus Christ, is always there for me. Not just there, but more than willing to help me through any struggle I encounter in my life. And He can do this through the Atonement, where He suffered in Gethsemane and on the cross for me. And with every shred of my soul I want to repay Him for that, not just because He did it for me, but because He did also for Mom, Dad, Ashley, Tanner, Laken, Joe, (especially Joe), my future husband, my future kids and all those people who mean more than the world to me. And the way I am going to attempt to repay my Redeemer is to always try to be the child of God I know I can be. Thomas S. Monson is the prophet of this church, He's the seer and revelatory leader for everyone on this earth. The words he speaks to us are nothing shorter than the very words that Heavenly Father gives us to hear and live by. I also know The Book of Mormon can fill you with the kind of peace anyone and everyone is looking for in their life. The reason for this is because it is the most perfectly accurate book ever written. The Book of Mormon, I know, is the Word of God, and if I truly apprehend all it contains, then I will be able to return to my Father in Heaven and live with Him and my brother, Jesus Christ for the rest of eternity, which would be the truest and greatest gift ever entrusted to me. The gospel of Jesus Christ, is the only thing that matters people. It is the only way we are going to have the fullest and most joyous life we were created to attain.

I hope you all take to heart what your Father in Heaven has done for you. That you realize your potential as a Child of God. You have been given SO much. Why waist it by complaining about what you may not have. Remember you have your Father who, through Him, ALL things are possible. I know this to be true, and I say this in the name of my brother, and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
